Casting for Marine 2
The producers of the movie “Marine” have decided to make a sequel, which I think is interesting since I didn’t even know they made an original. Apparently much of it is to be filmed in Phuket so they started recruiting for extras from Tiger Muay Thai. It’s a good idea actually since many people there are military or ex-military or at least look military. I personally didn’t try out (I wouldn’t have been in Thailand anyway) but I know a few guys who got some parts.

General Update
I’m not sure how many more times I’ll update this travel blog. I’ve moved into a new place that doesn’t have wireless so its difficult to make the updates so often. That and I have less than a week left. I go to visit Koh Phi Phi tomorrow, which is suppose to be beautiful (and touristy, and a world class place to scuba dive). I’ll be sure to take lots of photos and pass on any info I learn to you guys. Read the rest of this entry »

Visa Considerations
The two main options for tourists in Thailand (from the US) are to either come with NO visa, in which case you’ll be auto given a 30 day entry visa with a 500 baht per extra day fine. The second option is to come with a 60 day tourist visa which you’ll have to apply for ahead of time. Im not sure how much it costs but you’ll have to go to an embassy to get it (NYC of SF) or hire a company to take care of the processing for you. So your next question might be – what if I want to stay for 90 days? Well, then you do one of the infamous “Visa Runs”. Options abound since both flights and boats are rather cheap and countries are close by. The most frequent flight options usually take a person to Singapore or Kuala Lampur and possibly Ho Chi Mihn (I opted for KL). Your passport is stamped, your exit visa is taken care of, then when you reenter Thailand your 30 (or 60) days starts over again. Read the rest of this entry »

Biggest Health Concerns in Thailand
The biggest health concerns seem to be dehydration and travelers diahhrea. I did know what lady that got dengue fever, but thats the rare case, plus there are vaccinations for that (if you remember to get them at least a month before hand. See the CDC website for more info. So, below I’ve posted some info on handling the traveler’s sickness in Thailand. Its actually rather easy: Read the rest of this entry »

4 Days in Kuala Lumpur
Well, actually only 2 full days, I spent most of the other 2 traveling. The flight is only 1 hour, but bus time to and from the airport (at least one hour each way), plus plenty of delays left me with little time to sight see on the those days. Read the rest of this entry »

Forced into Advanced Class…
Somebody put the bullet in me, finish me off, I’m not quite dead. So I know I said I wouldn’t go to advanced, and if they hadn’t pushed me up there I wouldn’t have! It was as tough as I thought it would be. People sparred easy with me, so I didn’t get whacked around too much there, but clinching was another story along with the other drills they had us doing (including pushing the punching bag while they round house kicked us in the gut – awesome).
They probably won’t see me for at least a week in that class. I’m going to go back to intermediate on Monday, and I’m also taking the next few days off because I’m doing a visa run/mini-vacation to Kuala Lampur. Hopefully they’ll take me back at intermediate
I think they only pushed me up because they were running out of room with all the new fighters showing up.

Monsoon Rains
The rain is actually, in my opinion, kind of an endearing thing about Thailand because often times the rain only occurs for about an hour, cools things down a bit, and then the sun comes right back out and you can enjoy the rest of the day. Of course, sometimes it pours for days, and really hard. Thats what the video is – turn on your sound so you can hear how loud the rain is.

Ridiculous Offer to go to Advanced…
Yesterday one of the instructors told me to go up to advanced on Monday. Obviously, I’m flattered, but Monday is sparring day – they must think I’m insane! Plus I’m still healing from the beating I took the first day since I just got nailed again today in the same place.
I think I’ll stay in intermediate for a couple more weeks…

Max Payne First Class
I went to see Max Payne in theaters today at a mall about 15 minutes away from camp and let me tell you I’ve never had a theater experience quite like this. First of all, the whole setup was really high-tech. The latest in video and audio, it was probably the highest quality track I have ever listened to. But the real kicker was that I chose to watch the video “first class”. Read the rest of this entry »
